It is lovely to have decorations for every occasion and in February there is one date which everybody knows... Valentine's day!
This simple little heart is the most adorable decoration or gift, and it is easy to make. So get your scrap fabric out and let's get started!
Here is a video for extra help:
What You Will Need:
8 squares of fabric: 2.5" x 2.5" (I like to have all different types of fabric)
Narrow ribbon: 5"
A small button
Toy stuffing
Pinking shears (for more details see this post)
General sewing equipment
Drawing equipment
Method:
Making the paper pattern:
Draw a vertical line of 3" on a piece of paper.
1/5" down the line, draw a horizontal line of 2.5".
Using these lines, draw half a heart shape.
Fold your paper in half.
Cut around your drawing.
Quilted heart:
Take two squares and pin them right sides together. Repeat with two other squares.
Sew along one side.
Open the squares up and iron them flat.
Place them right sided together and sew along the longest edge.
Open the square up and iron flat.
Oversew even lines across the square to create a quilted effect. I like to create a criss-cross pattern, but you can do anything you like.
Repeat all of the above steps with your remaining squares of fabric.
Place your two large squares wrong sides together.
Place your paper heart on top in a diagonal position and draw lightly around it.
Oversew directly over the drawn line, but leave a small gap at the end.
Stuff the heart until firm.
Oversew the hole closed.
Cut around the heart, approximately 1/4" away from your stitching with the pinking shears.
Fold your ribbon in half and sew it onto the front of the heart with the button.
