As it is the coronation on the 6th May, it is the best time to start making bunting! Even if you don't make it for the coronation, it is a brilliant decoration for any special occasion. It is also really easy to make, doesn't use too much material and is perfect for beginners.
I am using some Union Jack cotton material, but any fabric is perfect for this project, especially scraps.
I am making mine with 12 triangles, but you can change this amount to however much you would like. Remember, that if you add more triangles you will need more ribbon than I state.
You Will Need:
12 triangles of main fabric: width 7" by vertical height 8.5"
12 triangles of backing fabric: width 7" by vertical height 8.5"
Approximately 1 meter of ribbon (when you cut this add at least 4" on for safety)
Sewing machine/ general sewing equipment
Something to poke corners out with
Iron
Note: To cut out the perfect triangle, draw a horizontal line and mark the middle. From the middle point mark your required height, vertically down. Connect the point of the height and the two sides of the horizontal line together.
Method:
Make a 1/4" hem on the top edge of all of your triangles using an iron.
Take one piece of backing fabric and place it right sides together with your main triangle.
Sew around the triangle, leaving the hemmed side open.
Turn right sides out, poking the corner out.
Iron flat.
Repeat with all of your triangles.
Pin your triangles at a 2"interval to the back of your ribbon.
Oversew across the ribbon. You can either sew continuously across, or just sew over each triangle individually.
