This is an easy and cute autumn pattern on how to sew a rustic pumpkin! Everybody loves seasonal decorations for their home, and even if you do not celebrate Halloween, these pumpkins are just gorgeous for autumn. You could even make them a little bit different, by adding rice and making it a doorstop!
The fabric I am using for this pattern is craft felt. I find it is easy to hold its shape and it is very easy to buy in autumnal colours. But, if you would like to make your pumpkin more of a pillow, anything from crushed velvet to cotton will do perfectly!
There are many different designs you could use to make your pumpkin look rustic and autumnal. I will talk about them in the pattern, such as different stems and threads you could use.
There is a video at the bottom of the post for extra help.
What You Will Need:
Main fabric/felt:
Small pumpkin - 14" by 5"
Medium pumpkin - 18" by 8"
Large pumpkin - 22" by 11"
Stem:
Brown felt - 2" by 2"
Twine
Thread:
Embroidery thread (corresponding colour to your felt/fabric)
Twine
Filling/other
Toy stuffing
Rice (optional)
Glue gun/fabric glue
General sewing equipment
You can also decorate your pumpkin with things such as ribbon, lace, bows, etc.
Method:
Fold your main fabric width ways, right sides together. Sew along the shortest edge.
Sew loose running stitches around the bottom edge of the fabric.
Pull the thread together to create ruffles and close the hole.
Turn right sides out.
Fill with stuffing.
Add rice to the stuffing if you would like to make it heavy for a doorstop.
Sew loose running stitches around the top edge of the fabric.
Pull the thread together to create ruffles and close the hole.
Take your embroidery thread/twine and wrap it around the pumpkin as you would a present. Create approximately six loops around the pumpkin.
Pull the thread slightly and tie at the top.
(Stem 1) Role your small square of fabric and glue it together. Glue it to the centre top of the pumpkin.
(Stem 2) Role your small square of felt and glue it together. Wrap twine around the stem, gluing it down. Glue to the centre of the pumpkin.
Add any decoration you would like to around the stem.
