These fabric flowers are the simplest but cutest thing to make and, surprisingly, you can use them for so many things. They can just be used for springtime decorations, you can make them into hair clips, or you could even make a door wreath using them. If you have read my post on how to make a baby's skirt and headband, you are ahead of me as I use one of these flowers to decorate the headband with. They are the most versatile things, and take barely any time.
I am making mine 5" in diameter, you can change this to whatever size you like. Just remember that your finished flower will be the same size as one circle.
Concerning fabric, this project is perfect for scraps. But, you don't want too soft a fabric as (especially if you are making a big flower) it might become floppy. Anything like cotton or linen are perfect, but, even though it is my favourite, viscose and the like are too soft.
There is a video at the bottom of the page for extra help.
You Will Need:
Six circles of fabric, I am making mine 5" in diameter.
Hand sewing needle and thread
A button (preferably 0.75" plus)
A circle of craft felt the same size as your button
Glue gun/ fabric glue
Iron
Method:
Take one circle and iron it flat in half.
Then fold it over again and iron flat so that you have a quarter of the circle.
Repeat with all circles.
With a long piece of thread on your needle, hand sew long running stitches across the top of your petal (this is the only part with a visible raw edge). Leave a tail of thread at the end for later on.
Repeat this process with all the petals.
Pull the petals tightly on the string.
Knot both ends of string tightly together.
Take your scrap of felt and glue it to the bottom of your flower.
Glue the button to the top. When you do this, it will cover any raw edges.
