Here is a lovely little drawstring bag that can be used in lots of ways, to keep makeup or loose change in so that your handbag stays organised. Or just to store various bit and bobs.
It is a brilliant project for beginners and takes barely any time at all to make. The measurements that I have written below are for a smaller bag (the finished bag measures: 6" x 9") but you can easily adjust the measurements to make a size suited to you.
You Will Need:
Two pieces of fabric 11inches by 8inches (as said above, these measurements can be adjusted)
Some ribbon, 1/2 inch wide and approximately 20 inches long.
Scissors.
A safety pin.
Sewing Machine/hand sewing equipment.
Pins.
Method:
Take one of your pieces of material and on both of the longest sides press a hem of a 1/4inch and sew.
On the top edge (one of the shorter sides) fold over a 1/4inch, iron flat and then fold again 1/2 inch (this is called a double hem).
Sew the hem closed making sure you leave enough room in it to thread the ribbon through later.
Repeat the first two steps on your second piece of fabric.
Pin the two rectangles right sides together, ensuring that the hems are aligned.
Sew, starting just below the wide hem, pivoting at each corner and finishing - once again - below the hem.
Turn it right side out and iron flat.
With a safety pin at the end of your ribbon, thread it through the hems at the top and you can tie the two ends of ribbon together to close the bag.
And that is your drawstring bag completed, I hope it will come in handy!
