Crochet Amigurumi Hearts

Updated: Apr 3

Crochet amigurumi hearts.

In this post, I am going to show you how to crochet these beautiful 3D crochet hearts. They not only make beautiful decorations but also make wonderful gifts. This is a relatively straight forward pattern and only takes a short amount of time to whip up. What could be more perfect?

These gorgeous little hearts are made starting at the top and working downwards to the tip. You begin by creating two separate "domes" (for the top) and then join them together as you work down. Be sure to mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker as you do not want to lose track!

Materials:

If you would like a smaller or larger heart, you can change the size of your yarn and your hook.

  • A yarn of your choice (I'm using a chunky yarn, but you can use a different type of your choice.)

  • A crochet hook (I'm using a 4.5mm)

  • Scissors

  • A darning needle

  • Toy stuffing.

  • A stitch marker

Stitch Abbreviations and Notes:

  • dc: double crochet

  • sl st: slip stitch

  • decrease: insert hook into first stitch, yarn over and pull through (2 loops on hook). Insert into next stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, and pull through all three loops.

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern is worked in UK terms (you can find my post explaining the difference between UK and US terms here).

  • It is worked in a continuous round and so you do not join with a slip stitch at the end of each round, and you do not turn your work.

Method:

Round 1:

  • Begin by making a magic ring (if you are unsure how to do this, check out my post here).

  • Into this ring, make 6dc.

Round 2:

  • Make 2dc in each stitch around. (12dc in total)

Round 3:

  • Make 1dc in each st around. (12dc in total)

Round 4:

  • Make 1dc in each st around. (12dc in total)

You want to repeat the above pattern twice, creating 2 separate halves. With the first half, fasten off, and cut your yarn. With your second half, do not cut your yarn.

Attaching your two halves together:

Round 5:

  • Insert your hook into the last stitch on the first dome. Make 1dc. This will join your two domes together. (make sure you mark this stitch with your stitch marker.)

  • Make 1dc in the next 11 stitches.

  • Insert your hook into the 12th stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop. Insert your hook into the first stitch on the next dome. Pull through all three loops.

  • Make 1dc in the last 11 stitches. (24 stitches in total for round 5)
